Russian idioms about lies
Hi everybody! The topic of today’s episode is “telling lies”. As usual, we’ll learn a few expressions that Russians use talking about liars and look at some examples.
Hello everybody.
Today’s episode is dedicated to the expression about telling lies.
One can lie differently. One can keep something back, i.e. “say half-true”, or one can boldly “hang noodles on the ears”:
Enough hanging noodles on our ears already, everybody around knows the truth, only you don’t admit it.
Some can try to put a spell on your teeth. “Заговаривать зубы” (to put a spell on the teeth) means to lie or to try to confuse somebody, to distract away from the topic.
Don’t kid me, say everything as it is.
If you see that somebody is openly and shamelessly lying (for example, a politician giving a speech on TV), you can say:
– Look at him, lying with no blushing.
“Tell a pack of lies” means some significant amount of lies, that somebody lied regardless of the consequences.
He told them a pack of lies, and they believed him.
That’s it for today. I wish you not to lie and not be be lied to. See you soon!
