Ёлки зеленые!
Some of the Russian euphemisms
Hello everybody! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 🙂 Did you know that Russians use Christmas tree to swear? Learn more from today’s episode…
Всем приве́т!
Hello everybody!
Сперва́, позво́льте мне поздра́вить всех вас с наступи́вшим католи́ческим Рождество́м и наступа́ющим Но́вым Годом! Пусть бу́дет ка́ждому то, что ему́ бо́льше всего́ ну́жно и ещё остаётся подели́ться! 🙂
Firstly, let me congratulate all of you with the Catholic Christmas and upcoming New Year! May everyone have what he needs the most and there is more to share! 🙂
В сего́дняшнем вы́пуске мы рассмо́трим не́сколько эфемизмов нецензу́рной бра́ни. Эфемизм, кто не зна́ет, э́то безоби́дное и не име́ющее осо́бого смы́сла сло́во и́ли словосочета́ние, кото́рое употребля́ется взаме́н выраже́ний, при́знанных непристо́йными.
In today’s episode, we look at some euphemism of unprintable language. Euphemism, who does not know, it’s a harmless and with no special meaning word or phrase that is used to replace expressions recognized obscene.
Мы уже́ обсужда́ли не́которые эфемизмы, как наприме́р блин и хрен. Сего́дня пришла́ о́чередь ёлок и други́х бессмы́сленных сочета́ний на Ё, кото́рые при́званы имити́ровать звуча́ние заменённого выраже́ния.
We have already discussed some euphemism, such as “блин” and “хрен”. Today is the turn of the Christmas trees and other nonsensical combinations on Ё which are designed to simulate the sound of the replaced expression.
Ита́к, вам о́чень ну́жно вы́ругаться по-ру́сски, но вы не хоти́те по́ртить о себе́ впечатле́ние, испо́льзуя нецензурщину? Выбира́йте люби́мое выраже́ние из спи́ска ни́же и по́льзуйтесь на здоро́вье!
So, you really need to swear in Russian, but you do not want to spoil the impression of yourself by using offensive language? Choose a favorite expression from the list below and use it as you want!
– Ёлки зелёные!
– Ёлки-па́лки!
– Ёпэрэсэтэ – по су́ти э́то про́сто набо́р букв по алфави́ту, начина́ющийся с Ё: п-р-с-т
– Ёкэлэмэнэ – тот же са́мый феноме́н, но друго́й набо́р букв: к-л-м-н
– Ёшкин кот
– Ёкарный бабай
– Firs green!
– Firs-sticks!
– Ёпэрэсэтэ – in essence it’s just a set of letters in alphabetical order, starting with the Ё: п-р-с-т
– Ёкэлэмэнэ – the same phenomenon, but another set of letters: к-л-м-н
– Ёшкин cat
– Ёкарный бабай
Немно́го приме́ров:
A few examples:
Ну ёпэрэсэтэ, опя́ть дождь на Но́вый Год вме́сто сне́га!
Ну ёпэрэсэтэ, again rain instead of snow for the New Year!
(в авто́бусе) Ёлки зелёные, вы мне все но́ги отдави́ли!
(in a bus) Green firs, you squashed all my legs!
“Again, twenty five” is a popular expression meaning that something undesirable has happened again. It comes from the name of a radio show from the 60s that was exactly 25 minutes long and had exactly the same name. The show is gone now, but the its name stuck around because of the rhymes, I guess.
Ну, и на э́том всё на сего́дня. Всех с наступа́ющим 2017 годом, услы́шимся там! 🙂
Well, that’s all for today. Happy upcoming 2017 everybody, hear each other there! 🙂
