This episode is dedicated to a very popular Russian insult ‘
Good time of the day!
Today we are learning the word “лох”.
“Лох” is an insult, i.e. a rude word that some people use to call others.
“Лох” is used to for gullible and simple-hearted people, who are easy to “надуть”, i.e. “to deceive”. Also, this word can mean “бестолочь” or “простофиля” (stupid person), “растяпа” (clumsy person). “Лох”-s are not respected and usually are not pitied. Probably, the closest feelings that are experienced to “лох”-s are contempt and disdain.
Calling people “лох” is rude. However, as an exception, in the circle of friends and as a joke, you can call your friend “лох”, if he “лоханулся.” “Лохануться” means “to let oneself be deceived”, “to get caught on a bait”, “to get stuck in a story”, “to be strongly mistaken”. “Лохануться” can actually anyone, even some clever engineer if he makes a mistake in the calculations, or some company if it takes a wrong business decision and loses a lot of money on it.
Let’s move on to the examples:
This sucker was robbed by a couple of schoolboys, they took his money and the mobile phone.
The guys failed miserably – they wanted to save, but in the end paid three times more.
Well, I think that’s it for today. Be vigilant and careful. Good luck and see you next time!
