Russian song of the week

Thank You, My Dear - Mikhail Boyarsky (1992)

The song “Thank you, my dear” was written by the author and composer Viktor Reznikov whose life suddenly and tragically ended in 1992.

His car collided with another car as he drove out of the courtyard of his house. For some time after the accident, Reznikov was still alive. Lying in the hospital bed and asked Mikhail Boyarsky to continue to sing his songs so that they would not be forgotten. So the song “Thank you, my dear”, previously performed by the author, got a second life.

Since then, this song has become an integral part of the Boyarsky family and it fits with them perfectly: loving parents raised a son and beautiful daughter (you could see Mikhail Boyarsky’s daughter, actress Elizaveta Boyarskaya, in the video to the song “You Exists in This World“).

Lyrics and translation

  • A sweet dream put down the flame of gentle eyes.
I will quietly and slightly touch your lips with mine...
And on your lips, a tired day has calmed down,
You are sleeping sweetly and I whisper to you, my dear:

  • Thanks for the day, thanks for the night,
Thanks for the son and for the daughter,
Thanks that among pain and evil
You managed to save our little world,
    You me it for me.

  • Time is twisted into a ring and our daughter, I believe,
Will one day bow her face, like you above the cradle.
And someone, in his turn, will sing to her quietly:
You are sleeping sweetly and I whisper to you, my dear...

  • Thanks for the day, thanks for the night,
Thanks for the son and for the daughter,
Thanks that among pain and evil
You managed to save our little world.

  • You, my blood and flesh, sleep so happily,
If the Lord sees, may he be your protection.
And I maybe have nothing more to pray for.
You are sleeping sweetly, and I whisper to you, my dear:

  • Thanks for the day, thanks for the night,
Thanks for the son and for the daughter,
Thanks that among pain and evil
You managed to save our little world.

  • And I maybe have nothing more to pray for.
You are sleeping sweetly, and I whisper to you, my dear:
Thanks for the day, thanks for the night,
Thanks for the son and for the daughter,
Thanks that among pain and evil
You managed to save our little world.
