Bear Lullaby - Umka (1969)

Umka is the Soviet cartoon in two parts released in 1969. The cartoon was directed by Vladimir Pekar and Vladimir Popov at Soyuzmultfilm studio. The script was written by Yuri Yakovlev.

The dilogy gained immense popularity thanks to the well-conceived and drawn image of the polar bear and its mother-bear, the voices of the actors, the music of Evgeny Krylatov, and the song (lullaby) of the bear performed by Aida Vedischeva.

Today we offer to your attention this lullaby.

Lyrics and translation

  • Mixing snow with a spoon,
    The big night is going,
    Why aren't you sleeping, silly?
    Your neighbors - white bears
    Are sleeping,
And you too go to sleep, baby.
    Your neighbors - white bears
    Are sleeping,
And you too go to sleep, baby.

  • We're floating on an ice floe
    As on the brigantine
    In the gray severe seas.
And all night, our neighbors -
    Star bears
    Shine to distant ships.
And all night, our neighbors -
    Star bears
    Shine to distant ships.
