Когда я ем, я глух и нем
With accent marks:
Когда́ я ем, я глух и нем.
Translation:
When I eat I am deaf and mute.
Meaning:
This Russian saying is well known to all Russian kids. Parents tell this to their children so they don't get distracted when eating and focus on finishing food first.
To be noted, some creative kids (or adults) came up with the opposite version of this saying: когда я кушаю, я говорю и слушаю.
